Coalition holds inaugural meeting to plan for 2018 civic election

Over a dozen local residents showed up for the inaugural steering committee meeting for the New Westminster Progressive Electors Coalition this week. The purpose of the meeting was to map out plans for community engagement in early 2018 and prepare a pathway to forming an Elections BC registered elector organization.

\”We have a great team that is committed to working collaboratively and putting the interests of our city first,\” says Daniel Fontaine, Chair of the Coalition.  \”There was unanimous consent on a range of issues including the fact our main goal should be to attract top quality candidates who are interested in developing a progressive and positive platform in time for the 2018 civic election.\”

The Coalition agreed to move forward and establish a non-profit society and is also planning to begin hosting a series of neighbourhood community events in early 2018 that will allow it to hear from local residents.  It has also made provisions for individuals to begin financially supporting the Coalition with the activation of its new donation tab on the website.

\”We know it takes a lot of volunteers and significant financial contributions to mount a successful campaign,\” says Fontaine. \”Based on the reaction we\’ve had so far, I\’m confident we\’ll be able to make an impact during the civic election.\”

Since the Coalition was formally launched a week ago, a number of individuals have come forward and expressed an interest in running with the New Westminster Progressives for either council or school board.

\”I\’m extremely impressed with the caliber of individuals who have already stepped forward to say they want to be part of the team and have their name on the ballot,\” says Fontaine. \”Attracting this type of talent will go a long way in helping us make it over the finish line.\”

The non-partisan Coalition is comprised of individuals who represent a broad spectrum of political views. If you are interested in volunteering please click here.
