David Halkett, who assumed the role as President last May, decided to step down and will serve on the Board of Directors as Past-President. Daniel Fontaine was elected as the new President while Celia Marto was re-elected as Vice-President.

“We’ve had an amazing year as a new elector organization and it’s great to see a growing level of interest in the New West Progressives throughout our community,” says Fontaine. “I’m honoured to serve as President and I’m looking forward to working over the coming years to help ensure more New West Progressive candidates are elected on council and the school board in the 2022 civic election.”

In October 2018, Danielle Connelly ran with the New West Progressives and was elected as a school board trustee. Cyrus Sy, who was just elected as a Board Director, came within a couple hundred votes of also being elected as a trustee. All four of our New West Progressive council candidates also made an impressive showing by securing the 7th to 10th spots.

The New West Progressives are planning a major fundraising event this fall in addition to participating in a number of local events in 2019. The treasurer also reported to NWP members that our campaign produced a healthy surplus of funds which will now be earmarked for increased community engagement and communication over the coming year.

“It’s truly amazing what we were able to accomplish after such a short time being established,” says Fontaine. \”Now just imagine what we\’ll be able to do in 2022.\”
