NEW WEST PROGRESSIVES REDOUBLE THEIR COMMITMENT TO QUEENSBOROUGH THROUGH INFRASTRUCTURE, SAFETY, AND TRANSPORTATION UPGRADES

New Westminster (September 22, 2022): New West Progressives again make commitment to engage and represent Queensborough in New Westminster City Hall with “Made for Queensborough” list of commitments. “For far too long, Queensborough residents and businesses have seen their unique challenges and needs ignored,” says Queensborough resident and mayoral candidate, Ken Armstrong. “Many in the community are frankly jaded and disillusioned by the litany of broken promises from career politicians.”

In 2018, the New West Progressives launched a one-of-a-kind set of policy commitments focused specifically on addressing the needs and challenges of the oft-neglected Queensborough neighbourhood of New Westminster. With engagement, transparency and accountability serving as core values of the group, the New West Progressives once again seeks to bring positive change to Queensborough through its 2022 Commitment to Queensborough.

“Being not on the mainland, separated by the mighty Fraser, Queensborough experiences a real physical disconnect and it is too easy for City Hall to, and they often do, forget about our community,” says Armstrong. If elected with a majority on October 15, the New West Progressives commit to bringing a City-hosted Town Hall, and two regular City Council meetings to Queensborough per year to meaningfully engage with resident and businesses.

The New West Progressives will also seek to bring infrastructure upgrades to Ryall Park including an all-weather sports field with a walk/run track. This long-sought community amenity will finally offer the healthy living support to residents of Queensborough within their own neighbourhood, one that is amongst the fastest growing in the Lower Mainland. Additional infrastructure upgrades committed by the New West Progressives include better lighting and signages at pedestrian crossings on main roads to improve pedestrian safety.

Transportation to and from Queensborough has always presented challenges to residents and businesses in the community. That’s why if elected with a majority, the New West Progressives will press TransLink to bring the Q2Q Ferry into the TransLink fare network. And unlike the many career politicians, including Team Cote, before them, the New West Progressives will seek to bring, at long last, a direct bus route that will bring Queensborough students to and from New Westminster Secondary School.

“The incumbent Team Cote council has had years to ‘do better’, and ‘do more’, but what we are hearing from residents, businesses, and voters it that they are tired of the same old thing,” adds Armstrong. “They are saying it is time for change, change for the better.”

NWP mayoral and council candidates continues to share many of their policy ideas aimed to address the concerns and ideas they have heard from New Westminster residents and businesses. Follow all campaign announcements at nwprogressives.ca/platform.
