City councillors Daniel Fontaine and Paul Minhas took the opportunity on their first full day in office to submit a series of motions to the City Clerk’s office. The motions will be placed on the agenda for the November 28th regular council meeting and the public will be invited to provide their input.
“Both Councillor Minhas and I want to roll up our sleeves and get right to work,” says Fontaine. “There are a lot of issues that require immediate attention and we hope our motions will get the unanimous support of our colleagues.”
The motions submitted yesterday cover a range of issues including (click on link to view motion):
- Re-establishment of the Railway Community Advisory Panel to help reduce train whistle noise in Sapperton and Queensborough
- Putting a pause on the phasing-out of the Royal City moniker
- Requesting Premier David Eby include in his 2023 Budget new funds to increase mental health supports in Metro Vancouver
- Establishing a new Human Resource Committee
- Establishing a new Amateur Sport and Recreation Committee
- Establishing a new Finance and City Services Committee
- Establishing a new Crime Reduction and Public Safety Committee
- Amending the Procedures By-Law to ensure the public has at least 5 business days before council votes on an issue
“We’re living up to the commitments we made to voters in the recent civic election,” says Minhas. “We said we’d work to make city council more transparent and accountable, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
