Councillor Paul Minhas made an appearance on CKNW’s Michael Smyth Show today in response to Mayor Johnstone’s initiative to establish income-tested ticketing in New Westminster and across BC.
“This proposal by our Mayor is just another example of how Community First is completely out of touch regarding what New Westminster want us to focus on,” says Minhas. “We have unpaved roads as well as broken and unsafe sidewalks that need our attention, not initiatives that will likely not even make it through their first court challenge.”
On Feb 27th Council passed a motion (5-2) to request that the Lower Mainland Local Government Association (LMLGA) support a resolution calling upon the Province of British Columbia to introduce two-tier ticketing. Both Minhas and Councillor Daniel Fontaine voted in opposition.
“The last eight years of council have been about focusing on agendas that don’t align with the basic interests of New West citizens and business owners,” says Minhas. “It’s time Council focuses more attention on keeping taxes in check and meeting our commitment to deliver core programs and services.”
