Halkett becomes President of New West Progressives

At its monthly meeting held on Thursday, April 5th, the New West Progressives Board of Directors elected David Halkett as its new President. Halkett takes over from founding President Daniel Fontaine who stepped down from this executive position, but remains as a director-at-large.

\”I\’m really looking forward to this new leadership role and I want to thank and recognize Daniel for all his hard work over the last year in helping to get the New West Progressives Society off the ground,\” says Halkett. \”As President, it will now be my role to help oversee the upcoming candidate recruitment and nomination process over the coming months. I\’m looking forward to that challenge.\”

The New West Progressives was launched in the Fall of 2017 and officially registered as a non-profit society in January 2018. Over the last several months, the NWP has been holding a series of neighbourhood forums and discussion groups encouraging local citizens to get engaged in the electoral process – which includes possibly being a candidate in the October 20th civic election. A number of individuals have already submitted a letter of interest to the Candidate Recruitment Committee in advance of the upcoming May 29th nomination meeting which is open to the public and takes place at the Centennial Lodge.

\”Our Board will be launching a more extensive community outreach strategy as we lead up to the kickoff of the 2018 election campaign which starts once we have formally nominated a slate of candidates,\” says Halkett. \”We\’ve been getting some very positive reaction from voters over the last few months. Like us, they\’re looking forward to having our team of candidates in place and being able to release a progressive platform which will include lots of new ideas and help restore balance at our city hall and school board.\”
