On Tuesday, May 29th the New West Progressives (NWP) have invited the community to attend their inaugural nomination meeting whereby they will announce an initial slate of candidates for both council and school board. Over 100 people have registered to attend the event which will include speeches from all of the candidates.
\”We\’re thrilled to have been able to attract such a high calibre of candidates, all of whom are committed to strengthening our city and improving the school system,\” says David Halkett, President of the NWP. \”Given we just launched the NWP last fall, it\’s been very rewarding to get this type of community support and candidate interest in such a short period of time. It\’s clear Royal City residents are looking for change and some new ideas.\”
The nomination meeting is taking place at the Centennial Lodge in Queen\’s Park. Registration will start at 6 pm, with the formal introduction of the candidates starting at 7 pm. New Westminster resident and NWP Board Director B.C. Lee will act as emcee for the event. Pre-registration is required for entry and a few spots can still be reserved by clicking on this link.
\”Once our candidates are nominated, their first job is to work collaboratively and pull together a comprehensive election platform which we intend on releasing this summer,\” says Halkett. \”However, I\’m sure you\’ll start getting a bit of a sense of what that platform will look like once the candidates take to the stage next week.\”
Earlier this year Daniel Fontaine announced he was seeking the nomination for council. Lisa Falbo and Cyrus Sy both announced their intention to secure a school board nomination. The NWP will continue to organize neighbourhood networking nights and attend various community functions over coming months. A new campaign office is set to open up this summer with more details on a location to be announced soon.
