“I have a laundry list of things we’ve been through” says New Westminster resident Carmen Dunn. She made an appearance today on the Mike Smyth Show on CKNW and catalogued a litany of issues her family have faced when it comes to crime and safety in her Brow of the Hill neighourhood.
Dunn spoke about incidents of finding needles throughout her neighbourhood as well as stumbling upon multiple dead bodies in her back lane.
“We are finding needles on our front lawn, we are finding stuff everywhere…every day we were dealing with men that were passed out, there are beer bottles, there is drug use, there are crack pipes, there is urine and public defacation, there are fights in the alley, we are hearing screams at night.”
Both Dunn and her neighbours visited City Hall multiple times to seek assistance but were met with resistance or a lack of interest. They even went to the Fraser Health Authority for help to remove the human feces, but were told unless it was inside a building there was little they could do.
On November 8th Carmen Dunn and almost 150 people will be attending a public forum dedicated to talking about these issues and how they are impacting New Westminster. NWP Councillors Daniel Fontaine and Paul Minhas will be moderating a panel discussion that will feature Kash Heed (former Chief of Police in West Vancouver and former BC Solicitor General), Shirley Heafey, former NW Police Board member and Dave Jones, former New West Police Chief and former Chief of Police for TransLink.
Only a few tickets remain for the event, so if you want to attend please reserve your seat today by clicking here. Admission is free to this townhall forum. To listen to the entire CKNW interview, click on the link below.
