NEW WESTMINSTER PROGRESSIVE ELECTORS COALITION UNVEILS INITIAL SLATE OF CANDIDATES FOR COUNCIL AND SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS THIS FALL
Candidates commit to develop and release comprehensive election platform this summer
New Westminster, B.C. (May 29th, 2018): The New Westminster Progressives Electors Coalition Society (NWP) unveiled the initial slate of six candidates who will be running under their banner for the 2018 civic council and school board elections. The NWP candidates are now working together, in consultation with the community, to develop a comprehensive election platform document to be unveiled this summer.
The NWP is a coalition of independent candidates who aim to make a breakthrough at city council which is currently 100% controlled by elected officials endorsed and supported by the same political interest group. Three NWP candidates are also vying to secure seats on the New Westminster School Board and bring balance to a board where a majority of the trustees are also endorsed by the same group.
“We’re very proud of our recruitment efforts which set as a goal trying to get more women involved in municipal politics,” says David Halkett, President of the NWP. “The fact we have a 50/50 gender split in our team demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing a more balanced approach to our local politics and supporting progressive policies.”
The NWP Board of Directors announced this evening at their nomination meeting the following candidates have been approved to run on their slate this fall:
City Council:
Daniel Fontaine – www.DanielFontaine.ca
Paul McNamara – www.PaulMcNamara4NW.com
Bryn Ward
School Board:
Danielle Connelly – www.DanielleConnelly.ca
Lisa Falbo – www.LisaFalbo.ca
Cyrus Sy – www.CyrusSy.ca
“We are extremely proud of the people we have been able to attract to run under the NWP banner this fall,” says B.C. Lee, Secretary Treasurer for the NWP. “Our slate is made up of a majority of residents who have never been formally involved in politics at any level before. They come from a variety of backgrounds and neighbourhoods and are committed to improving our city and school system.”
“Our team of candidates plan to introduce some new ideas and a balanced approach to both city council and the school board,” says Halkett. “Our search for a suitable Mayoral candidate and additional school and council candidates will continue and we plan to announce more details on that later this summer.”
NWP candidates will be seeking the most important endorsement of all – that of the people of New Westminster whose interests they will be representing when elected.
About the NWP: The NWP was founded in the fall of November 2017 and formed as a registered non-profit society in January 2018. The NWP has held a series of community forums and networking nights over the last several months to engage New Westminster residents and seek their input on the development of our campaign platform.
