The New Westminster Progressives (NWP) Board of Directors has set May 29th as the date for its inaugural nomination meeting. A slate of candidates for both council and school board will be formally introduced to the community at an evening event held at the Centennial Lodge.
“This is going to be a fun night for everyone involved,” says Daniel Fontaine, President of the NWP Society.” We will be nominating a diverse and progressive team of candidates whose aim it is to bring forward a positive agenda and engage with our community.”
The NW Progressives formally launched in November 2017 and earlier this year became registered as a non-profit society. The NWP’s role is to recruit candidates who will in turn develop a comprehensive platform that will be released to the public prior to the October 20th civic election.
“We definitely have some wind in our sails,” says Fontaine. “There has been a tremendous level of grassroots support for us over the last few months. However, we’re also acutely aware this is going to be a David vs. Goliath fight. But we sense voters are looking for a change, some new ideas and a more balanced approach to governing our city. This is something our team will be offering this fall.”
