In 2018, the New West Progressives launched a one-of-a-kind “Commitment to Queensborough” to help demonstrate our understanding of the unique needs, challenges and opportunities in this neighbourhood. The NW Progressives have updated that commitment, and if elected we will:
- Secure funding partners to prioritize and install an all-weather artificial turf field with a walking track at Ryall Park.
- Increase access and visibility of the NWPD through the permanent expansion of the Community Policing Office.
- Negotiate with TransLink to integrate the Q2Q Ferry into the regional transit fare system and further expand bus service to the Port Royal district.
- In partnership with TransLink, determine community interest and feasibility of developing a more permanent, environmentally-friendly light rail commuter link between downtown New Westminster and Queensborough to eventually replace the Q2Q Ferry.
- Engage with our local governing Members of the Legislative Assembly (which includes the Minister of Education) and TransLink to secure funding to – at long-last – establish a direct route bus link to New Westminster Secondary School.
- Install more well-lit pedestrian-controlled crossings on major roads.
- Bringing up to standard poorly-maintained sport and recreational facilities.
- Hosting at least one City Hall town hall and two regular council meetings per year in Queensborough.
- Securing the necessary funds to accelerate the elimination of open ditches through a 50/50 grant matching program.
