Our Schools

  • Advocate for increased per-student funding. A zero increase in per-student funding this school year is not meeting student needs, especially with the stresses associated with coming out of the pandemic. British Columbia ranks 9th in Canada when it comes to per-student funding and it is important as trustees that we continue advocating for the province to adequately fund public education in British Columbia.
  • Advocate for provincial funding to build more schools to meet the rapidly growing need in our city and appeal to the provincial government and ministry to change the funding formula for new school builds to include room for projected growth and include funding for Before and After School Care and daycare spaces
  • Work to create more opportunities for students to gain experience in the trades.
  • Advocate for improved school library resources and services in all SD40 schools, including exploring the idea of a per-student funding model to ensure equal access for all students in the district.
  • Advocate to the ministry to review and update the MyEdBC platform to improve functionality and usability for students, families, and teachers.
  • Look for ways to increase access to school spaces for our public and non-profit partners during non-instructional time making our schools active and engaged community hubs.
