PROPOSED CHANGES TO NEW WEST COMMITTEE STRUCTURE TO BE DISCUSSED NOV 28TH

Councillors-elect Paul Minhas and Daniel Fontaine will be recommending significant changes to the composition of committees and task forces in the City of New Westminster at the upcoming November 28th meeting of council.

“What we’re requesting is that more of our committees become focused on the important day-to-day issues of concern to our citizens and small businesses,’ says Councillor-elect Paul Minhas. “That’s why we’re proposing a number of new committees and task forces be established that will also serve to support a more open, transparent and accountable city government.”

A series of motions will be submitted next week requesting city council create and/or re-establish a number of committees including the:

• Railway Community Advisory Panel (re-establish)
• Crime Reduction and Public Safety Task Force (new)
• Finance and City Services Standing Committee (new)
• Amateur Sport and Recreation Task Force (new)
• Joint Council-School Board Long-Term Planning Committee (new)
• Human Resources Committee (new)

“We heard from citizens and business owners on the doorsteps over the last six months that they didn’t want city council to operate ‘business as usual’,” says Fontaine. “That’s why we want to re-establish the Railway Community Advisory Panel and establish several other important committees that will support even greater community input.”

Members of the public who wish to speak to these motions will be permitted the opportunity to sign up and attend the November 28th council meeting. More information will be provided here and on the City’s website soon.
