City Councillor Daniel Fontaine was invited to appear on the Mike Smyth Show today on CKNW to discuss a proposal by Mayor Patrick Johnstone to reform the way speeding tickets are issued in BC.
Fontaine told Smyth he didn’t support the motion which received unanimous approval from the Community First representatives on Council. Both Fontaine and Minhas voted against the motion for a range of different reasons.
“We know that even though you are driving an expensive sports car, your annual income might be next to nothing on paper. So what will be the deterrent to stop speeding if your fine is still miniscule?” asks Fontaine. “There are clearly a number of other enforcement measures such as the removal of a drivers license that may actually have a bigger impact on helping to slow drivers down on our streets.”
